~  SIGN THE "NO SALES TAX ON YOGA CLASSES IN YOGA STUDIOS" PETITION! ~

The state of Missouri is currently levying sales tax on studios where yoga classes are offered.  Since the state has determined that yoga is taught in gyms, and that gyms are "places of recreation, amusement, and entertainment" yoga studios are now considered with the same designation.

Therefore the amount paid for classes at yoga studios is now subject to sales tax.

A bill is in the process of being introduced to the Missouri State Senate. For more info on State Senate Bill No. 726 sponsored by Senator Joan Bray go to www.spiritofyogastlouis.org The bill specifically exempts retail sales tax on Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong instruction. Also see article "Yoga-Recreation or Religion?"  by Lucy Holmes; click on Instructor Bio

Petitions are available for signing at YogaSource, Marbles Yoga Studio, Jane's House of Wellbeing, and with Lucy Holmes of WellSpring Yoga-St. Louis; click on Contact. Please also consider writing letters to your senator and congressperson (a similar bill is being considered for the Missouri House of Representatives).

If you believe that yoga is something other than amusement, recreation, or entertainment, please make every effort to sign this petition. Clarifying what yoga is NOT is traditionally how Yoga was defined. Thank you for your support.
